Lemonade Album Review

Calling everyone from the Beyhive! Our Queen Bey has arrived and knocked us all out of our seats. On April 23, 2016, the Queen dropped her visual album “Lemonade” and left the world a little bit more stronger than before.

For those of you who may not know Beyonce, she is one of the accomplished women in the music industry. She’s married to rapper, Jay-Z, and they have a four year old daughter named Blue Ivy. Beyonce is known for speaking out for women all around the world and for her relatable lyrics. She recently released Lemonade, which contains 12 songs and is accompanied by visual stories.

At first, Lemonade was only available on Tidal. A day later though it was available on iTunes. After spending an hour on Twitter reading reviews and seeing the reactions of many fans, I decided that it was my turn to give it a listen. All I saw were positive comments about her album and how strong it was. Almost every female that tweeted about it talked about how it made them feel stronger and better than they were before. So, I bought the album, and let me tell you, I did not regret it. The entire album is rumored to be about the relationship between Jay-Z and Beyonce. It was also a rumor that throughout their marriage, Jay-Z has been unfaithful. “Lemonade” is said to be an album about Beyonce’s thoughts and feelings throughout the drama in their relationship. At first, I didn’t believe all these rumors. But once I listened carefully to the lyrics of her songs, it seemed to prove the rumors right. An example of this can be seen in her song, “Hold Up”. (One of my favorites!) The song even starts off with, “Hold up, they don’t like you like I love you.” If this doesn’t prove that the couple faced troubles with their relationship, I don’t know what will. Although many fans took this album as a diss to Jay-Z, it really wasn’t. I saw this album as more of a collection of experiences, from getting hurt to staying in love, to being independent. Yes, it does talk about some hurtful experiences, but it also shows how Beyonce worked through it and overcame it.

Another one of my favorite songs off of the album is “Sandcastles”. It’s more of a slower song, which I enjoy the most. So if you like that type of music, I suggest you listen to that song first! Another song that I enjoyed a lot is “Daddy Lessons.” This song is a sharp contrast to the song I stated before. “Daddy Lessons” is a song about the lessons that a dad taught his daughter. It’s upbeat and strong. After listening to it, I felt like I was ready to take on the world.

This article only contains my top three favorite songs from Beyonce’s new album “Lemonade”. I totally recommend buying and listening to this album, it’s worth it. This album not only addresses real life problems, but also proves to us that Beyonce is one of us. She’s human too; she gets hurt, she falls in love, and she learns how to get through it. Maybe we’re not that different from the Queen Bey after all.

Make sure to check out “Lemonade” on iTunes and on Tidal, or catch her on her Formation tour!
