Around the World in 9 Months

Australian band, 5 Seconds of Summer (also known as 5SOS), recently started their 9 month world tour. The boys –Ashton Irwin, Calum Hood, Luke Hemmings, and Michael Clifford– are back from a five month hiatus and are excited to kick off this new tour.

The name of this tour is called “Sounds Live, Feels Live,” named after their most recent album, Sounds Good Feels Good. Overall, the boys will be playing 102 shows worldwide. Throughout their short five month hiatus, the boys tweeted often, expressing excitement for this upcoming tour. The first leg of the tour will be in Asia, followed by Europe, North America, and lastly their home country, Australia. The first show happened on February 19 in Nagoya, Japan. This was the first show of the Asian leg of the tour, which is sadly one of the shortest legs of the tour. The boys were excited for this show; they even had a countdown on Twitter until the day of the concert.

After a series of shows throughout Asia, the boys recently played their last Asian show in Manila, Philippines. This show happened this past weekend on March 12th. The boys were very excited about this show because it was their first time playing in the Philippines. They were supposed to play a show in the Philippines last year on their “Rock Out with Your Socks Out” tour, but had to cancel due to album problems. Finally able to play in the Philippines, the boys tweeted out constantly about how excited they were, and after the concert, they tweeted about how great it was.

Now with the Asian leg of the tour done, the boys are now heading to Europe. But before this tour, the boys were given a short break. With this short break, the boys took the time to relax. Ashton and Luke flew to Los Angeles, while Calum and Michael flew back home to Australia.

Many European fans are excited for the return of 5SOS and can’t wait to hear the new songs live. After this European leg of the tour, it will be the North American leg. As a 5SOS fan, I have the privilege to go this year and see them on September 4 at the Verizon Amphitheater. It won’t be happening any time soon, but the excitement is starting to build up. I also found the time to look for fellow 5SOS fans around school and thankfully found some friends to fangirl with. When asked if she will be going to a concert this year, freshman Jezelle D., said that “due to their increasing popularity, prices will rise, and [she] will not be able to see them, though [she’d] love to.” Fellow freshman, Heavin R., also added that “she is really happy for them.”

Although the tour just started, the boys are already having a great time and bringing fans around the world happiness.
