Women March All Over the World

On Saturday, Jan. 21, more than 1 million women and women’s rights supporters around the world participated in the first-ever Women’s March. Participants from many different cities including Los Angeles, New York, Sydney, London, and Paris showed their support in either the main March on Washington or in other sister marches.

Participants of this event included women, men, and children of all ages, ethnicity, and social status. According to USUncut, a whopping 750,000 people showed up, in support of women’s rights, to the Women’s Rally in Downtown, Los Angeles. This surprisingly large number proves that all women deserve to have equal rights and that they are not alone in their struggle to have their voice heard.

Former HMSA student Gisselle V. had the opportunity to attend the Women’s March in L.A. and to experience a feeling of security and support. She described her feelings during her time at the march: “It was like a sense of empowerment as if I could do anything I wanted with just the support of my girls, you know? It made me realize that maybe we aren’t alone. It made me less scared about having Trump as a president. I’ve never felt so powerful than when I was there with everyone. It was an amazing and beautiful thing to see. Everyone was so nice and just so supportive. It is truly something I won’t ever forget and something I won’t forget to tell my kids when they’re older.”

Quite a few celebrities also decided to show their support for women’s rights. Some of these special guests included Zendaya, Beyonce, Katy Perry, Halsey (in Washington D.C.), Whoopi Goldberg (in New York City), and Ariana Grande (in Los Angeles). They showed their support for women by singing and/or saying a few words of encouragement.

It was a life-changing experience and a great opportunity for everyone who attended the Women’s March. It ensured women that they are not alone in their struggles, and they will help each other to get their wishes fulfilled.
