The Junior Class Visits Two College Campuses
The junior class is getting closer and closer to the end of high school and the start of college. To expand their knowledge and broaden their choices, the class of 2018 visited two college campuses in San Diego. They visited both San Diego State University (SDSU) and University of California, San Diego (UCSD).
At SDSU, the students were divided into groups and had a mini-tour of the campuses. The tour guides were informative and answered any questions concerning the college. The university’s buildings were beautiful and had eye-catching plants and flowers. Specifically, the library named the ¨Love Library¨ had a very unique structure. However, time was limited and most people didn’t get to see the entire campus. Melissa M. pointed out that she “felt the campus had more to offer and [she] didn’t see as much as [she] wanted to, but it was still an amazing experience.”
UC San Diego representatives also split the students up into different groups for the tours. The school’s library particularly stood out with it’s creative structure, which was designed to look like hands holding a stack of books. Across from the library was a statue of Theodor Geisel, better known as Dr. Seuss, which was a sweet reminder of our childhoods. The university also had a statue of a “Sun God.¨ The school’s legend states that if you hold your breath, close your eyes, and walk under it, you’ll pass your classes with an ¨A¨ grade. Aviators took advantage of this and ran under the ¨Sun God¨ statue hoping for passing grades. When asked for a reflection of one of the colleges, Aviaunce L. said, “UCSD was a beautiful campus. All throughout the school wonderful art pieces were visible.”
Overall, the field trip was informative for many juniors and opened up their options for a future school. Many students who weren’t even thinking about a school in San Diego changed their minds completely.
