Presidential Campaign 2016

The United States presidential election of 2016, is scheduled for Tuesday, November 8, 2016. According to New York Times there are quite a lot of people wanting to represent the Republican Party and the majority of people know the most popular candidate, Donald Trump. The Democratic Party on the other hand, doesn’t have as many candidates, three to be exact, and Hillary Clinton is one of the most well known nominees. If Hillary wins the election then she will change American history by becoming the first female president. However, a recent email scandal changed the minds of many of her supporters. While Clinton was Secretary of State, she used a private email server instead of the official state.gov email. By using a private email, Clinton put the national security of the United States at risk.  Hillary and her team justified her actions by explaining that the private email was just for convenience.

Aside from the email, Hillary is qualified and experienced for the presidential position. One of her greatest achievements was the Global Health Initiative (GHI) which was designed to put a focus on maternal and infant health. Also, Clinton supports women’s rights and gender equality. She always brings up important issues such as women’s health, equal pay, and domestic violence.

Unlike Hillary, Trump has made multiple sexist remarks towards women. For instance, comparing women to inanimate objects in Trump 101: The Ways to Success, Trump says “Beauty and elegance, whether in a woman, a building, or a work of art, is not just superficial or something pretty to see.”

We took it upon ourselves to create a survey that consisted of four free response questions regarding to the upcoming candidates and the student’s opinion on the election. The average survey taker was against Donald Trump and suggested another republican representative, such as Jeb Bush. The reason for that is because he is against immigrants, doesn’t have political experience, and has no clear plan for the United States. The chart above shows a general election between Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton. As seen in the chart, most Americans agree and have chosen Clinton over Trump. RCP stands for Real Clear Politics and the website is a series of surveys taken by different corporations.

Ultimately, most of the students at HMSA are not old enough to vote, however, that should not keep them from staying informed. Students should be updated in presidential issues and concerns because that is the future of the United States. Anyone under the age of eighteen cannot vote, but students can utilized their new knowledge to inform their parents.
