On February 4, 2018, Super Bowl 52 took place in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The two teams that played in the Super Bowl this year were the NFC champions, the Philadelphia Eagles, and the AFC champions, the New England Patriots. The Eagle’s record into the Super Bowl was 14-3, and Patriots record was 15-3. Patriots won 5 Super Bowls in the past. Eagles, on the other hand, haven’t gotten a Super Bowl win. The last time the Patriots played the Eagles in a Super Bowl was in 2005, but it ended up with a Patriot win.

Justin Timberlake performed in the halftime show, but he wasn’t the only celebrity there. Celebrities seen in the crowd included: Philadelphia native and Eagles superfan, Bradley Cooper; Golden State Warriors basketball player, Stephen Curry; former Vice President, Joe Biden; Pennsylvania native, Miles Teller; Groupon spokesperson, Tiffany Haddish; and Kevin Hart. It was also couples night for Jennifer Lopez and Alex Rodriguez and Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton. Other stars included: J.J. Watt and his girlfriend Kealia Ohai; National Anthem singer, P!nk, and her daughter, Willow; Floyd Mayweather, Jr.; Elizabeth Banks; Jenny McCarthy and Donnie Wahlberg; Tom Brady‘s wife, Gisele Bündchen; and New England Patriots wide receiver, Danny Amendola’s girlfriend, Olivia Culpo; and Sean “Diddy” Combs.

During the first quarter, the Eagles started the game well and got the score to 3-0. However, the Patriots came back and tied, making the score 3-3. As the game progressed, the Eagles improved and with Nick Foles’ amazing throws this half season (since Carson Wentz got injured in December), they scored a touchdown but missed the extra point attempt. Shortly after, the Eagles scored another touchdown and the score became 15-3.

On the other hand, New England still struggled to find their path and unfortunately, they had to attempt a field goal. Eventually, New England found their opportunity and they were able to finally score. That lead didn’t last as another touchdown was made by Philadelphia, which changed the score to 22-12. That was the end of the first-half.

As soon as the second-half started, the Patriots scored, making the score 22-19. But, then again, the Eagles responded with excellent momentum and scored another touchdown, which changed the score to 29-19. The Eagles had a ten-point lead, but the game was still not over and no correct assumptions were able to be made. With 3 mins left in the third quarter, New England scored a touchdown and made the score 29-26.

In the beginning of the fourth quarter, the Eagles scored a field goal and changed the score to 32-29. Some may have said the game was over when New England made another touchdown and marked their lead, 33-32. However,  the Eagles still had hope and they promised Philly a Super Bowl win so, with 2 mins left in the game, Zach Ertz made an incredible touchdown. After that play, the Eagles were in possession of the ball again as they executed an amazing sack/fumble; they achieved a 46-yard field goal at the Patriot’s expense.

The Philadelphia Eagles ended victorious in the game and won their first Super Bowl title. After having such an amazing season, they can only be congratulated! They are not called “underdogs” anymore; they are now the TOP DOGS!
