Throwback Thursday: Movie Edition – “The Texas Chainsaw Massacre” (1974)

Jaylen Moulton, Staff Writer

On November 7th, Gunnar Hansen, the actor who played Leatherface in the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre film, died of pancreatic cancer. Sure, the Halloween season may be over, but in honor of Gunnar Hansen, it would be a great movie to watch over the weekend, especially if you love slasher films.

The movie begins with five friends on their way to see the main character, Sally’s, grandfather’s grave because she and her brother were worried about news reports they had heard about grave robbing. After leaving the graveyard with peace of mind that Sally’s grandfather’s body had not been stolen, the group of friends leave to go to Sally’s family’s house. While they are driving towards the house they pick up a hitchhiker, who soon starts acting strange.  They kick the hitchhiker out quickly before he can do anything to harm them. When they finally get to their destination, the group searches through the house.

While at the house, Franklin, Sally’s brother, tells two members of the group, Kirk and Pam, about a swimming pool that is located behind the house. Kirk and Pam love the idea of swimming and decide to head back and find the swimming pool, but instead they find a small house. Kirk goes inside the house to investigate and as he gets closer and closer inside, Leatherface pops out and Kirk meets his fate. The movie continues with suspense, fear, and of course, chainsaws!

All packed into an hour and a half, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre is a movie so scary you’ll believe it was real! By the end of the movie, you’ll be at the edge of your seat, hoping for the best and expecting the worst. A film so classic, you’ll never forget it.
