Is The Classroom Safe?
December 14, 2016

The Miss Universe Pageant comes around every year and is watched by millions of people all over the globe. It first started in 1952 with Armi Kuusela taking the crown back to Finland. Nothing has ever changed with this pageant. Girls come from all over the world to compete and spend thousands of dollars on dresses, shoes, hair, and etc.

This year’s pageant had a bit of a twist to it. Everything went smoothly up until the crowning of the winner. The last two contestants were Miss Colombia, Ariadna Gutierrez and Miss Philippines, Pia Wurtzbach, but there was a mix up with the host. Ariadna Gutierrez enjoyed her two minutes of fame when Steve Harvey announced her as the winner, only to have it taken away. During her celebration, he interrupted her and the whole audience to explain that he announced the wrong winner. The actual winner of the pageant was Miss Philippines, Pia Wurtzbach, who was quite shocked to hear the news.

At the end of the day, Miss Colombia was the 1st runner up and Miss Philippines was Miss Universe. After interviewing HMSA students Lillianna Najera and Marco Garcia, they both agreed the whole situation was sad, but very amusing. Both students thought it was funny because while Steve Harvey was explaining himself, Miss Colombia didn’t know what was going on due to her not being able to understand English. It was recommended that  Ariadna Gutierrez undergoes some type of psychological  evaluation since Steve Harvey’s actions were considered “psychological torture.”
