The girls basketball season was phenomenal and sadly ended in the first round of playoffs. I looked into the stats of the team that beat them and noticed our team held them to lower points. Even if we didn’t win, we dominated them with our defense.
Now looking upon the regular season, the girls lost 5 games and won 13. They finished 4th in the league and are planning to improve next season. The stats only display one part of this amazing team. I went to almost every girls game and I only kept coming back because they were such a great team. I could look away from the game for a whole quarter and know they were winning. They play furiously, give it their best and even blow out some teams by more than 20 points.
The seniors played well and displayed great leadership on the floor. When watching, Chika stood out as a natural leader among them and was a crucial part of their team along with Brigitte.
Now focusing away from the seniors, who are now departing the team to the young core. Their young core is amazing and after the seniors leave they will continue the legacy with success. There are natural leaders rising amongst the team: Jocelyn Perez, their leading scorer; Chidera and Chidubem, the 2nd and 3rd leading scorers. This basketball team is going places with those 3 players, and I can’t wait to watch them next season.
After watching the girls basketball teams I always stayed to watch the boys team. The boys basketball season was a roller coaster of emotions. They’re an astonishing team, but they’re young, and the boys sometimes let their frustration get the better of them, but they have the skills to win.
Even though the boys basketball team didn’t make the playoffs, I think as the team matures they can make it next year and be a phenomenal team. I say that watching them first hand and observing the great players they have, including Troy, Jedidah, Ekene, and Brian.
The departing seniors will definitely be missed–Jadon who dunked on Senior Night is something I could never forget.
Overall, the basketball season has much promise for next year, and both teams will undoubtedly get far.
