Introduction
This year there were many amazing events such as sports, news, movies, and music! In this article we’ll be going over the highlights of this amazing year and what it gave us for those topics!
Sports
This year’s sport was pretty phenomenal, Jayson Tatum led the Boston Celtics to win the NBA championship 4-1, beating Luka Doncic and the Dallas Mavericks. The Celtics beat the Indiana Pacers in the Playoffs and the Mavericks Kicked the Timber Wolves off too.
Lucky for Los Angels we won the 2024 MLB world series thanks to Shohan Ohtani against the New York Yankees. We won 4-1 and the MVP was Freddie Freeman.
On the opposite end, California lost the Superbowl; The San Francisco 49ers lost to the Kansas City Chiefs, 22-25, from a last second catch from Mecole Hardman. The 49ers took out the Detroit Lions in the Playoffs, and the Chiefs took out the Baltimore Ravens.
The Euro Cup was also an exciting event which had the 2 most popular European soccer teams competing in the finals: Spain and England. England had its star studded cast of soccer players and Spain with one of the youngest soccer players, Lamine Yamal. England Lost 2-1.
News
This year was filled with amazing news! Here’s some highlights. On April 8, 2024 a solar eclipse occurred, dazzling our eyes with its beauty. This was our second total solar eclipse we’ll have in seven years.
May 30, 2024 Donald Trump was convicted. In this year Donald Trump became the first former U.S. president to be convicted of crimes. He was convicted on 34 counts. The first presidential debate of 2024 took place on June 27th; Joe Biden debated against former president Donald Trump, later Biden would drop out of the race in July.
On July 13, 2024 Trump was injured on his ear by a gunman during a campaign in Pennsylvania.
Oct 1, 2024 the first female president, a Jewish immigrant, was sworn in Mexico.
Nov 5, 2024, another historic U.S. election takes place. Donald Trump won the presidential election against Kamala Harris, marking a new beginning for the U.S.
Movies
There were plenty of remakes this year: Disney alone had Deadpool, Wolverine, Mufasa: Lion King, Inside Out 2, and Moana 2. There were plenty of good animated movies too like Despicable Me 4 and Garfield. We also had Sonic The Hedgehog 3, The Wild Robot, and Wicked.
The top rated movies of the year include Dune: Part Two, Nosferatu, The Wild Robot, The Substance, Wicked, The Fall Guy, and Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga. It was an incredible year for many high rated movies that are sure to become award winners!
Music
In 2024 many artists released their new hit songs! Let’s go over a few of these artists and their amazing new records. Starting with the pop category lots of pop artists made new hit tracks or albums. Taylor Swift released her new album The Tortured Poets Department which was an instant hit. One of the top trending songs from her album she released was Fortnight featuring Post Malone. Sabrina Carpenter became very popular among the public with her album Short n Sweet. This album produced many hit songs; the top songs that were trending in her album were Espresso, Please Please Please, Juno, and Taste! Chappel Roan came up with her new hit song Good Luck, Babe! It took the audience by storm and quickly became popular as a result. Lastly, let’s end off the pop music recap strong with Bruno Mar’s #1 song of 2024 Die With A Smile featuring Lady Gaga. That song alone had 1.6+ billion streams within 17 weeks of its release! Crazy Right?
On the other side of things, 2024 was a pretty good year for rap too, especially for the west coast. We had albums from Kendrick Lamar, Tyler the Creator, Vince Staples, Schoolboy Q, Larry June, and plenty more. Kendrick Lamar’s album was a surprise drop and reached the billboard top 100 in under 2 days, and the rapper’s disputes with Drake was more than entertaining. We also had 2 Kanye albums. Along with J Cole and Denzul Curry’s albums and their smooth production. Future and Metro were also making some heat this year with their album We Don’t Trust You and We Still Don’t Trust You, becoming massively successful because of their amazing features. Even some up and coming artists like Doechii, who was signed by TDE. Plenty of underground rappers released music this year.
