Who doesn’t know Britney Spears? She has made some of the most iconic songs of all time, such as, Oops I Did It Again, Baby One More Time, Womanizer, Toxic, and many more that are still bangers to this day! While her life of fame may seem like the ideal lifestyle to many, that is not the case at all.

Up until recently, she was controlled under her father and was forced under a conservatorship. A conservatorship is when a court appoints a person to make the financial and life decisions for someone who is not mentally or physically able to do it themselves. They are supposed to help people, but for Brittney Spears, it only made her life worse. However, now she is finally free from her father, the man who had been controlling her whole life from the start. How did this all unravel in the first place? To answer that question, we have to go all the way back to the beginning.

It all started in 2007, when Britney Spears’ decisions started to raise concern:  she shaved her whole entire head until nothing was left and attacked a paparazzi car with an umbrella. This caused her to lose custody of her children, which made her even more distressed. Many people were concerned about her mental health, and thus the conservatorship was made. The conservatorship was run by her father, who basically made all of the decisions for her due to her mental health at the time.  He eventually became extremely controlling, to the point where Brittney didn’t even have a life anymore.

Her fans, noticing all of this, created a campaign called “#FreeBritney.” It was made to spread awareness and to try to get rid of Spears’ conservatorship. It all started with a website created back in 2009 called FreeBritney.net, and from there on it expanded to social media. Some of the posts contained a pink icon that had the hashtag within it, while others talked about how Spears’ conservatorship should stop.

Eventually a court case was set up in Los Angeles, at the Stanley Mosk Courthouse, on June 23rd of this year. Britney Spears had told the judge that she apparently was forced into birth control and was not allowed to get married again. In the end, another court case was set, and the judge declared that Jamie Spears, Brittney Spears’ father, would no longer be in control of her conservatorship. Surprisingly enough, her father said that he would still love his daughter no matter what, even though he openly admitted that they had not spoken since August. So, what’s in store for Brittney now? Well, we’ll just have to wait and see —while hoping for the best.
