‘Tis the Season for Christmas Movies

Cassandra Tercero, Writer

As soon as December 1st hits, people love to start playing their Christmas playlists, put up their Christmas decorations, and binge-watch Christmas movies. There’re so many movies to watch during this time of year: from the most popular ones to the not-so-popular ones, from comedy to romance, to drama, fantasy, or even horror. If you find yourself struggling to find a good Christmas movie to watch, here is a list of my favorite Christmas movies that I put together. Hopefully, you’ll like them too.

Starting at the top of the list is, of course, How the Grinch Stole Christmas with Jim Carrey. If you haven’t seen this movie, then where have you been this entire time? To help you out of that snowy rock you’ve been hiding under, make sure you watch this classic. This is a classic go-to fantasy movie that starts off with the antagonist, the Grinch, who hates Christmas and plans to destroy Christmas in Whoville. The ending completely contradicts the beginning of the movie and the Grinch’s perspective on Christmas changes.

Another great movie is Gremlins. This is a fantasy horror movie about a salesman who is looking for a special gift for his son and finds one at a store in Chinatown. The shopkeeper is skeptical to sell him the “mogwai” but sells it to him anyway with the warning to never expose him to bright light, water, or to feed him after midnight. At the end, a gang of gremlins decide to tear up the town on Christmas Eve. Another dark Christmas movie that is considered fantasy/musical is The Nightmare Before Christmas. This is another great movie that is worth watching over again. Fit for even the children, this movie’s fun for the whole family.

For movies that are great for older viewers, we have movies like Elf starring Will Ferrell or The Holiday with Kate Winslet and Cameron Diaz. This one is very interesting and is a romantic comedy. Lastly, we have Home Alone, an adventure/comedy Christmas movie. Starring Macaulay Culkin, 8-year-old Kevin McCallister is left at home on accident during Christmas time, while his parents go on vacation, and he finds himself needing to protect his house from two men who try to rob it. This movie will bring a few good laughs out of you.

There are plenty of other great Christmas movies to watch than the few that I just named. These, though, are just some of my personal favorites. I highly suggest you watch these movies if you haven’t already. I wish you the best in this holiday season.

Merry Christmas!!!
