Have you ever wanted to go to a magical land where everything is perfect? Wendy Darling and her brothers, Michael and John, go on a magical adventure with the mischievous boy who never grows up: the one and only Peter Pan. Peter Pan by J.M. Barrie is a compelling story filled with friendship, magic, epic battles, and pixie dust. I strongly recommend this story to anyone who wants to go into the world of imagination.

I hope everyone has heard of Peter Pan, whether through the Disney films or the book itself. He is by far one of my favorite characters, and I thoroughly enjoyed the book. Peter Pan is the never aging boy who lives in Neverland along with the lost boys, and he has never ending feuds with the “codfish” that is Captain Hook. The adventure begins when Peter Pan flies through the nursery of the Darling household to find his shadow. Peter Pan takes Wendy and her brothers to Neverland with him. Once in Neverland, they learn how to fly, to never grow up, and to have a little faith. The book itself gives a lot more detail than the film’s plot. The story Peter Pan may have a dark side you didn’t know about. I was so shocked to find that Neverland isn’t all butterflies, mermaids, and sunshine. There’s actually some background as to how things are ruled in Neverland, which I found to be quite dark. The book also tells of the story after Wendy grows up, which not many people know about. I love that they added this because they don’t end it on a cliffhanger where you have to wonder what happened. The book tells you exactly what happened after Wendy and her brothers returned from Neverland. There’s also a bit more of a romance between Wendy and Peter. I couldn’t stop smiling while I was reading the book because it reminded me of those elementary school relationships that you can’t help saying “aw” to. This book is so amazing to read, and I hated when it finally came to an end. In fact, I began to read it all over again because I am just so in love with the book. I almost cried when I reached the end, partly because I wished there was more to read and the other because of the ending itself. You guys have to read to find out the ending, so go read the book!

This book shows us the magic in youth, and may present us with a little nostalgia. It’s fun to think about a place where you’ll never grow up, especially since (being adolescents) our childhood is coming to an end. However, even after going to Neverland, the Darling e up. Maybe it’s a way of saying that everyone grows up even if you don’t want to. This book is worth eight points if you want to take an AR test on it, and has a ZPD level of 7.2. Regardless of the points, I believe everyone should give this amazing story a read because you may find it more enjoyable than you first thought.
