USA’s closed door to the World Cup 2018 Tournament
December 2, 2017
On October 10, 2017, USA played against Trinidad to qualify for the World Cup 2018 in Russia. USA’s sorrowful game against Trinidad ended with not qualifying for the World Cup 2018. This is the first time since 1986 that USA does not qualify for the World Cup tournament. One question many may have is, “What happened out there?”
The game started in excitement. Trinidad struck first in the 17th minute with a OG by Omar Gonzalez. It was an honest mistake by Omar, but it was the 17th minute, so the game continued and USA still had hope and confidence! 30 minutes later, they remained with the same score 1-0. Trinidad then struck again with a goal by Alvin Jones in the 37th minute. It was time for Christian Pulisic to shine, and he scored a goal for USA in the 47th minute. Although USA had only scored one goal, they kept doing their best and they had many chances to score another goal. The game closed with a 2-1 score. Trinidad won the game and closed the doors for the USA’s qualification for the World Cup tournament.
USA has amazing players of all ages. One key, young, player in the USA team is Christian Pulisic. He is a 19 year old young man from Hershey Derry Township, Pennsylvania. Christian is also a midfielder,or winger, for Borussia Dortundin, the German Bundesliga. He made amazing records in the USA National Soccer team. In May 28, 2016, he scored in an international friendly game against Bolivia and became the youngest player in the modern era to score a goal for the United States at 17 years old. On September 2, 2016, he became the youngest American player to score a goal in their World Cup qualifying history at 17 years old.
Although the USA isn’t going to in for the World Cup tournament in 2018, they will keep practicing for their games and focus on getting ready for the next time they get the chance to qualify for another cup. Meanwhile, we will have to wait until World Cup 2022 for the USA to have the opportunity to qualify once again.
