New Year, New Me

What is New Year, New Me? Many people on social media post a selfie on instagram with the caption “New Year, New Me” or tweet about it. While many people also come up with New Year resolutions to start off with goals to accomplish the following year, many people don’t follow through.

I don’t think “New Year, New Me” is a great idea since many people remain the same the following year. Also, only about 8% of people actually change and follow through their resolutions (http://www.statisticbrain.com/new-years-resolution-statistics/). I think people shouldn’t have to rely on a new year to change their life when they can come up with a resolution whenever they want throughout the year.

I asked Junior Kathleen Catamisan on her opinion: ” I believe no one follows their New Year resolutions and it’s useless”.

Although I do understand some people’s point of view that starting on New Year has a symbolic meaning of a new beginning. But if the change is really urgent then there shouldn’t be wait. I used to do resolutions every year, and immediately forgot about them. The year would fly by and I realized I never followed through. I felt that I failed myself but creating false goals. Not accomplishing the resolutions feels like I failed myself. I just find the whole idea superficial.

Many people create outrageous or unrealistic resolutions that are hard to accomplish which just makes them not motivating to try and accomplish. The things that we currently do identify us as a person and we just have to believe in ourselves to change. We don’t change into a whole different person. New Year New Me gives a false idea of that it will change us into a “better version” of ourselves. Instead of the whole New Year New Me, people should stop and reflect on what they want to change and make little progress everyday, and by the end of the year it will be a significant amount. This is an easier option rather than setting up ridiculous resolutions that you know you’ll forget about.

What do you think about “New Year New Me”? Can follow through with your resolutions?
