Creating The Spirit Of Christmas
It’s the month of December, the weather is cold and everyone is just about ready to snuggle up with a warm blanket and some hot chocolate. Every year I decide to decorate my room to get into the holiday spirit. I want to share my simple decoration ideas with you guys so you can get into the spirit as well. Here’s a little summary of this years decoration ideas. I decided to make a couple of things: string popcorn to hang on my Christmas tree, cut out snowflakes made of paper (wall decorations), and make Christmas cards for friends and family!
The string popcorn garland idea came to me when I was watching an animated short film, How the Grinch Stole Christmas. In this little animated short, I noticed the trees were decorated with little popcorns attached together. I later searched up pictures on google and decided to give this idea a try. The materials I used included: popped popcorn, needle or toothpick, thread, and anything else that will look nice in the garland (ex. cranberries, candy, …etc.).
Here are the steps for the Popcorn Garland:
- Begin by gathering your materials. Before using the popcorn, it’s best to make sure the popcorn is stale. The materials you should have out include: needle, thread, popcorn, and anything else you will add to the garland.
- Grab a needle and insert the thread through the small opening of the needle.
- Make sure the thread is secured on the needle.
- Now begin by grabbing the popcorn and putting the needle through it.
- Grab anything else you will need to decorate the garland and create a pattern with the popcorn and the other decorations you have chosen.
- Now that you have finished the pattern, tie off and hang!
The next idea is paper snowflakes that are really easy to make. The materials you will need include: printer paper, scissors, and glitter (optional). Depending on how decorative you want your snowflake, you can decide whether or not to color or glue glitter. Here’s a YouTube video for the paper snowflake.
Lastly, Christmas cards are just about the nicest presents to receive from friends. For this next simple project I will be adding the link to the instruction video. Materials you will need include: construction paper (printer paper can be used too, just color the card), scissors, glue, colored pencils, markers (optional), and a pen to write.
