La Liga 2016-2017 Catch-Up
The 2016-17 La Liga began in, perhaps, one of the most surprising ways: FC Barcelona was not in first place.
Ever since the 2016-2017 iteration of La Liga began, Real Madrid have proven themselves to be the top dogs. Real Madrid currently has 3 ties, 7 victories, and 0 losses; and are currently in first place in the league. On Saturday, Oct. 30, 2016, they won their tenth game in the tenth week of the league. They are ready for more victories and they have shown they are great challengers in the league so far. But there are 20 teams in total competing in the league and things can change from now until the league finishes.
Barcelona, the champion the past two seasons, is currently sitting on second place in the league, only two points under their rivals Real Madrid. They’ve had 7 wins, 1 tie, and 2 losses. Right behind Barcelona, from the other side of Madrid, is Atlético Madrid, which has 18 points with 6 wins, 3 ties, and 1 loss.
Many students are excited about the league and can’t wait to see who the winner will be. Giber C., Jorge M., and Flavio A., are some of the many students who think Real Madrid will win, based on their achievements so far, while Richard R. thinks Barcelona will win. Atlético Madrid was also mentioned when asked who they think will win. This question was a tough one for them, but in the end they were able to choose the ones they thought had put the most out on the field so far. The rest of the teams weren’t mentioned at all by this group of students.
The most recent games were on Friday November 4, four games on Saturday November 5, and five games on Sunday November 6.
