“The Last Bookstore” is a must see for those who enjoy reading. Last Friday, I went to Downtown L.A. with one of my friends to check this place out. Visiting this place was new and refreshing, a type of bookstore with a different type of feeling than that of Barnes & Noble.

At the entrance of the bookstore there’s a contrast between the serene interior and the busy streets of Los Angeles. The bookstore consisted of two floors: the first floor filled with bookshelves, a center stage, and even an area with old vinyls; the second floor with its multiple rooms had an amazing arch made out of books! There were multiple rooms with bookshelves of different genres. One room, on the second floor, had windows that allowed you to look out into the busy streets. The faint murmur of voices chattering by the center stage was very welcoming, this gave the book store a sense of communion. Everyone was kind and had very interesting views on different types of books. The staff members were very welcoming and friendly as well.

One thing that caught my attention was on the second floor. There was an area filled with art. Not only was this place a bookstore, but it was also a mini art gallery! Each art piece displayed had its own individual personality. One piece of artwork that caught my attention was a window pane that had smaller window frames hanging from the ceiling. Other artworks varied from paintings to sculptures. I even caught a glimpse of a woman painting in one of the rooms.

The bookstore varied from all types of literary modes, including comic books, history books, and poetry. There was even a donation slot for people who simply wanted to donate an old book. One of my favorite things to do was sit in the different rooms that the bookstore consisted of. Unlike Barnes & Noble, “The Last Bookstore” had benches, couches, and even stools where people could grab a book and sit down to read. My experience at “The Last Bookstore” was marvelous. The place had an overall welcoming environment which allowed me to take a break from L.A.’s busy streets. I encourage those who enjoy taking their time to relax and read a book to go to “The Last Bookstore”.
