Is the GOP Conspiring Against Trump?
Donald Trump believes that the political system is “stacked against him.” During a recent interview with Trump’s family, at a special CNN town hall in New York City, the public received their opinions on his presidential campaign.
Donald Trump accused the Republican Party of plotting against him. The Republican National Committee Chairman, Reince Priebus tweeted:
Nomination process known for a year + beyond. It’s the responsibility of the campaigns to understand it. Complaints now? Give us all a break
— Reince Priebus (@Reince) April 13, 2016
Donald Trump claimed that if he gets the 1,237 delegates required to win the Republican nomination, Reince Priebus may not have his safe place as chairman of the Republican National Committee. “I don’t know. I haven’t made the determination,” said Donald Trump in an interview with The Washington Post.
The feud between Trump and his rival, Ted Cruz, immerged after the GOP presidential front-runner claimed “unfair” results in Colorado. A similar situation happened in Louisiana: Trump won the primary but Cruz was seeking to change the delegates’ minds.
Trump told CNN’s Anderson Cooper, “They changed the rules a number of months ago. You know why they changed the rules? Because they saw how I was doing and they didn’t like it” (CNN). Trump claims the Republican National Committee (RNC) is rooting against him. Priebus’ tweet sent a very clear message on how he felt about the complaints Trump made.
The soft side of Donald Trump was shown in the rare family sighting on Tuesday. Trump, his wife Melania, and his children–Ivanka, Eric, and Donald Jr., and Tiffany–were answering questions from New York voters. Tiffany Trump and his second wife Marla Maples said: “Whenever my father puts his heart and soul into something, he goes full force.” Tiffany also said the quality she admires the most about her father is his work ethic. Ivanka has told Tiffany that she has “the potential to accomplish exactly what her brothers could.” Melania Trump also added that her husband treats women and men equally.
Trump’s family has told him to tone down his rhetoric and speak in a more “presidential” tone. Someone asked Trump if he speaks to his family the same way he speaks to his GOP rivals and he jokingly answered: “I think I’m much nicer to them.” Ivanka, one of Trump’s daughter, has asked him to hold back in some situations but she understands why sometimes he can’t; “It’s like a cage match. They’re jumping on him, hitting him from the left, hitting him from the right,” she said. “I don’t think you can be particularly laid back and make it through this experience.”
