St. Patrick’s Day is here, and we can sense the luck in the air. 17th-of-March enthusiasts from around the world are preparing for a fun day of relaxation and, most likely, some pinching. The types of celebration vary between American states. However, in the end, everyone still has a good time and enjoys this lucky day.

First off, of course:

Dublin, Ireland: For the past 21 years, Dublin has been showing their Irish pride with the St. Patrick’s Day Festival. This celebration lasts 4 days and this year it will be held from March 17th to March 20th. Traditionally, Ireland celebrates by dancing, attending parades, and drinkings lots and lots of beer. Many places also find their own traditions to follow. Some communities hold door/window decorating contests or dances.

Paris, France: Due to its high Irish population, there are many traditional Irish pubs throughout the city of Paris. Many people, Irish and non-Irish, visit these pubs to celebrate on the weekends near St.Patrick’s day. There are also non-drinking events that individuals can attend such as Irish group concerts at the Irish Culture Center.

Manhattan, New York, USA: The New York City St. Patrick’s Day Parade in Manhattan will begin at 11 a.m. and will end at around 4:30 p.m. It will begin on 44th Street and 5th Avenue near St. Patrick’s Cathedral and end about 2.3 miles away on 79th Street. This parade will be streamed by NBC New York as well.

Redondo Beach, California, USA: While many people take this time of the month to celebrate with parties, others celebrate by running! Redondo Beach had a 5K run/race earlier this week on Sunday March 13, 2016. Monetary prizes were awarded to the top 3 runners from the adult categories: $200 for 1st place, $125 for 2nd place, and $75 for third place.

Montreal, Canada: Canada is home to one of the longest running parades in all of North America. Montreal’s St. Patrick’s Day Parade has been held every year since 1824. That’s 192 years! This parade starts off with a float containing an enormous statue of St. Patrick at the front. About 600,000 spectators enjoy watching this three-hour parade every year.

Chicago, Illinois, USA: People sure are going green in Chicago for the holiday! The rivers is this city are dyed the color green to express their love for Irish culture. Many bars in the area also dye their beer green for the special occasion.

Despite having different ways of celebrating this special day, people still enjoy the luxury of being around family and friends for a unique and fun holiday. This year, St. Patrick’s Day is on Thursday March 17, 2016. I hope you wore something green, or beware the pinchers!
