Scrolling, streaming, binging for hours–practically a canon event for most teenagers. To find out what’s keeping our Aviators on their screens, I asked a few students what are their favorite movies to binge.
Nicolas Valadez, a 9th grader at HMSA, expressed his love for the Despicable Me movies on Netflix: “The humor in these movies are top tier–and I especially love the minions.”
Sticking with the comedy-family film genre, Hazel Ortiz, an 11th grader, mentioned the Dreamworks movie Trolls as her go-to. Hazel explained she enjoys watching Trolls on Peacock when needing a laugh: “I love Trolls and Princess Poppy–the story between her and Branch is so cute.”
Of course, not everyone prefers light-hearted films. Another student, Javier Franco mentioned Interstellar. He appreciated the graphics and overall storyline: “I thought it was a really cool movie and the ending was surprising.”
Another film, Titanic, was a favorite for 9th grader Christopher Lopez. Christopher said that the story stood out to him: “I was surprised they made a sad/romantic movie out of a real-life event.”
Finally, 11th grader Kemzi Wami enjoys the film You, a thriller about a stalker obsessed with a girl. This stalker finds ways to learn more about her in order to follow her, manipulate her life, and control her relationships. Kemzi said, “I use that method a lot.” Hopefully, she didn’t use it to the Joe Goldberg extent…
Comparing these favorites side to side, we could all agree Aviators have a wide diversity of genres between their answers: some prefer light-hearted, silly movies, and others gravitate more into emotional or sophisticated-type movies. Whether it’s laughing at silly minions, or crying for Rose and Jack, Aviators always find something worth watching.
Have or will you watch the movies listed? I’ll personally be tuning into You, and finding out what the Joe Goldberg method actually is.
