2024 was the year for music and Los Angeles sports teams. A few of the most popular artists’ albums were, “HIT ME HARD AND SOFT” by Billie Eilish, “GNX” by Kendrick Lamar, “COWBOY CARTER” by Beyonce, and “Alligator Bites Never Heal” by Doechii. (tag other article here) Some of you may recall a google form that went out inviting you to vote on your favorite album from each individual month of 2024. Using your responses I decided to hold HMSA’s very own Grammys, based on the information compiled from 94 of HMSA’s very own students. 

Our “Grammy Award” topics are, HMSA’s Top Genre, HMSA’s Favorite Spring Album, HMSA’s Favorite Summer Album, HMSA’s Favorite Fall Album, HMSA’s Favorite Winter Album, HMSA’s Favorite Collab Album and of course HMSA’s very own Album Of The Year. All the awards given are based on your votes. There are absolutely no biases, curves, or personal choices considered. These awards are given strictly off numbers. 

HMSA’s Top Genre Award was based on 2 factors, the most common genre based on the winning monthly albums, and the amount of overall votes made to each of the albums for that genre. Taking 246 of the 424 winning votes, and having 8 of 12 of the monthly winning albums; HMSA’s Top Genre Award goes to Hip-Hop/Rap. These votes consisted of albums like “CHROMAKOPIA”, “HARDSTONE PSYCHO”, and “GNX” taking the overall monthly favored albums of 2024, the Hip-Hop/Rap genres win seemed inevitable. 

HMSA’s seasons awards are all composed by the same guidelines. These albums were the highest voted albums out of the others from that season. Spring runs from March to May. The 3 running albums were “WE DON’T TRUST YOU” by Future & Metro Boomin for the month of March, “WE STILL DON’T TRUST YOU” by Future & Metro Boomin, and “HIT ME HARD AND SOFT” by Billie Eilish. The album taking the majority of votes and HMSA’s Favorite Spring Album Award is “HIT ME HARD AND SOFT” by Billie Eilish! This album is loved by many and it was believed that she should have won the actual Grammys Album Of The Year award. Summer runs from June to August. The three favored albums for these months are “HARDSTONE PSYCHO” by Don Toliver for June, “Ate” by Stray Kids for July, and “This Is How Tomorrow Moves” by beabadoobee. Taking the most votes and HMSA’s Favorite Summer Album Award is “HARDSTONE PSYCHO” by Don Toliver. This album got so much positive attention not only in 2024 but even now. With over 4 songs blowing up on social media platforms the album got worldwide attention. Fall runs from September to November. The three favored albums for those months are “The Genuine Articulate” by The Alchemist for September, “CHROMAKOPIA” by Tyler, The Creator for October, and “GNX” by Kendrick Lamar for the month of November. The album with the most votes and taking the HMSA’s Favorite Fall Album Award is “CHROMAKOPIA” by Tyler, The Creator. Tyler’s album took the world by storm but specifically hit home for us because Tyler grew up in Hawthorne. With the “CHROMAKOPIA” tour selling out at almost every stop and the album having so many hits its no surprise he got so many votes. Winter runs from December to February. The three favored albums for those months are “SOS Deluxe: LANA” by SZA for December, “american dream” by 21 Savage for January, and “VULTURES 1” by ¥$, Kanye West, and Ty Dolla $ign. The album with the most votes and taking HMSA’s Favorite Winter Album Award is “SOS Deluxe: LANA” by SZA. Although this is a continuation of  her album “SOS”, this album is still nothing short of amazing. With “SOS” being SZA’s musical breakthrough her music has only gone up from there. 

Last but not least we have HMSA’s very own Album Of The Year for 2024. This album took not only HMSA but the world by storm. This artist is currently on tour and has done some groundbreaking work with its versatility and meaning. With 14 songs and so many amazing featured artists this album took over social media and almost every song has been on top charts. This album talks about discovering your self identity and letting yourself go. Referencing places like Leuzinger High School and other local areas this album is relatable to so many people in so many different ways. And with that HMSA’S ALBUM OF THE YEAR is “CHROMAKOPIA” by Tyler The Creator. 

2024 was a great year for music and will never be forgotten. 2024 was a year for the books.
