I was scrolling through TikTok and as I was scrolling, my friends kept on texting me: “Drake or Kendrick?” I thought to myself, “That’s weird…”. Why are they making me choose? I realized almost everything on TikTok was about these two and their rivalry against one another.
Drake and Kendrick rivalry has been an ongoing drama that dates all the way back to August 14, 2013, when Kendrick claimed that he and others were better than Drake in a feature on Big Sean’s song “Control”. But why? People speculate that it was all in good fun at first, more of a joke than anything else as further down the line, he claimed that his verse was intended for “friendly competition”. Later on, Kendrick yet again calls out Drake in the 2013 BET Hip-Hop awards rapping, “Yeah, and nothing’s been the same since they’ve dropped ‘Control’ and tucked a sensitive rapper back in his pajama clothes.” He’s making fun of Drake in this rap verse and still claiming he and many other rappers are better than Drake as he brings back Big Sean’s song “Control.”
Everything had slowly settled down between the two up until recently on October 31, 2023, when Drake and another rapper, J.Cole, got together for their song named “First Person Shooter.” In his verse, J.Cole says, “I love when they argue who’s the hardest MC.” There is also another diss where Drake makes accusations at Kendrick which got Kendrick upset so he dropped 3 disses: “Euphoria,” “Not Like Us,” and “Meet the Grahams.” He continued to make a lot of serious allegations that shocked the world (and which this publication will not repeat). He also filmed a music video with his wife for “Not Like Us,” as a diss track to Drake’s allegation against him and his wife.
In this feud, it appears the truth matters less than how skillfully you sing the lie.
