The Biggest Uh Oh’s of Live Shows

March 29, 2017

Everybody makes mistakes, but are these celebrity mistakes excusable? To take a trip down memory lane, remember back in 2009 when Taylor Swift won VMA’s Best Female Video award and Kanye West interrupted her speech? All that just to state his opinion that Beyonce deserved that award. Wow, Kanye! The words  “Imma let you finish” definitely shocked not only the audience but the people watching from home. The moment spread worldwide and became the news of the week. Even Beyonce was shocked; it was the most unexpected thing… ever. Although what he did was wrong, he did apologize to Taylor, and now they’re buddies; but what was going through his head at the time? It’s not as if the award would be taken from Taylor Swift and given to Beyonce.

There was also another celebrity that not only shocked the world but disappointed contestants: Steve Harvey. Comedian Steve Harvey was given the job to host the Miss Universe Pageant in 2015. The evening went well until it was time to announce the winner. The “winner,” Miss Colombia, was announced until Harvey came forward saying,”I have to apologize.” The real winner was Miss Philippines. It’s amazing how something that happens so quickly can possibly ruin someone’s reputation in an instant. Rumors began to swirl: “Miss Colombia Sues Steve Harvey.” What a mess! Steve Harvey then had Miss Colombia on his show and things were sorted out.

Let us get to a more recent “uh oh.” The Oscars took place in February 2017. The Best Picture award was awarded to La La Land, but the real winner was Moonlight. According to CNN Entertainment, actor Mahershala Ali said, “It threw me more than a bit. I didn’t want to go up there and take anything from somebody. It’s very hard to feel joy in a moment like that.” It’s good that he sympathized with the cast of La La Land.

No one in this world is perfect, but it is important that we all recognize that our mistakes affect people in a negative way. Whether these events happened yesterday or 10 years ago, they remain a topic that many seem to constantly bring up because of the constant shock these moments brought.
