This Spring’s Pep Rally Celebrates Victory

It’s that time of the year when the softball, baseball, and volleyball players get to show their accomplishments! On Friday, March 17, ASB held a pep rally for our spring sports. Pep rallies are events aimed at inspiring people, especially before a sporting event.

Sound Club started off the pep rally with a few announcements. Senior Dane O. kept the crowd alive and excited to begin the pep rally. Alas, the event commenced when Senior Jesse Cortez announced the softball team and their coach, Mr. Dura. Mr. Dura took over as he gave a small speech congratulating the team on their effort and victories over the last few games. He then called out the names of each team member on the Lady A’s and the Baby A’s softball teams. The audience motivated each player as they came out by cheering and clapping loudly. Captain Alejandra M. gave a quick speech and then handed the microphone to Junior Cinthya M., and she continued on with a heartfelt speech. After the speeches, the ladies gave their signature chant before clearing the blacktop.

Following the softball team, came the baseball team. The team members were called out one by one. As they were coming out onto the blacktop, the rest of HMSA proudly supported all the baseball players. After each member was called, the baseball players kept their chant simple and left the blacktop to take a group picture.

Lastly, the boys volleyball team and their coach, Mr. Severns,  were introduced by Senior Jesse C.. The boys volleyball team is split into two groups: varsity and junior varsity. Junior-varsity was called out onto the middle of the blacktop first, quickly followed by the varsity team. Captain Abdulkarim A., the only senior on the team, was pressured by his teammates to say a few words on the team’s behalf.

ASB then took over and began a new game for the pep rally. Students, from each grade level, who were interested signed up a few days earlier to participate. The new game was just a quick volleyball game played with a beach ball. I asked Jackeline M. (Freshmen President of ASB) why ASB chose to play volleyball for this pep rally. On behalf of ASB, she said, “We wanted to incorporate the sports that we were presenting. This was easy to manage and entertaining.” According to Jackeline, ASB takes about three weeks to organize a pep rally.

All in all, thank you to all of our HMSA athletes and congratulations on all your successes as individuals and as a team.
