Young and Angry

Freeform’s comedy, ‘Young and Hungry’ continues to captivate its young adult audience, while also angering the living daylights out of me. And while I am a fan of watching dramas, there is a fine line between compelling conflicts and crazy conundrums.

‘Young and Hungry’ tells the story of a young entrepreneur named Gabi who aspires to be a celebrity chef. She gets hired by wealthy tech tycoon, Josh, who was in need of a personal chef. Through the course of the story, Gabi gets into a bunch of shenanigans and (with the help of her mature best friend Sofia) faces her endless list of problems head on.

Honestly, kudos to Sofia.

Although the overall show is amusing, the main couple’s inconsistent relationship is exasperating. After watching the first episode, it’s pretty obvious Josh and Gabi are going to end up together. And sure enough, they do. But get this: IT TAKES THEM THREE SEASONS TO GET TOGETHER. And don’t get me wrong, I enjoy watching “the chase” and how it takes about a full season for two lovable characters to wind up together, but three seasons? Seriously? Oh, and that’s not all. They BREAK UP AFTER ABOUT THREE EPISODES. But don’t worry, they do get back together–only to BREAK UP AGAIN. This all happens in just one, long annoying season. What was once a cute and funny show, turned into some kind of dating fiasco.

It’s like Ross and Rachel all over again!

But that’s the thing with these predictable sitcoms… Are they infuriating? Yes. Are we going to stop watching them? Gosh, no. I don’t like Gabi and Josh’s roller coaster relationship, but I’ll stick around for another few seasons. Call it a guilty pleasure if you will.

‘Young and Hungry’ returns to Freeform on March 13, 2017.
