Must-Watch Movies for Summer 2016

When someone says ‘summer’, I think about a lot of different things: no school, a lot of work, hanging out with my friends, and movies. Lots and lots of movies!

This summer, in particular, I feel that the movies that are waiting to be watched are going to be the best ones yet.

X-Men: Apocalypse is the first one up. Even though this movie doesn’t come out in the summer, it’s the first movie that everyone is raving about. On May 27th, every theater near you will be flashing the faces of Jennifer Lawrence, Evan Peter, Olivia Munn, and Michael Fassbender (amongst other of our favorite X-Men characters). This new film will follow Magneto, Raven and Professor X as they lead a new team of X-Men to stop their greatest nemesis, Apocalypse. IMDB.com has already rated the movie an 8.5/10, making X-Men fans everywhere even more excited about the new movie.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows is up next! Leonardo, Michelangelo, Donatello and Raphael are back with more of their usual antics. On June 3rd, the four famous turtles will be back as they battle a numerous amount of villains. The list of your favorite actors and actresses that will make an appearance in this movie include Tyler Perry, Megan Fox, Will Arnett, and Brian Tee, two of which will be playing this movie’s infamous villains.

On June 10th, The Four Horsemen return to the big screen in Now You See Me 2 hits theatres. The entire original cast is back in this magic-filled movie, including a new face: Daniel Radcliffe. That’s right! Radcliffe joins the cast of magicians as Walter Mabry. This movie doesn’t have any ratings yet, but I’m sure some will come out soon enough.

The long awaited sequel to one of many people’s favorite movie finally hits theatres on June 17th. Ellen Degeneres rekindles her role as Dory in Finding Dory. The movie was first announced in 2014, causing Pixar to begin releasing a lot of their movies that were already in production to allow creators to spend more time on this movie. In this movie, as many of us already know, the storyline follows Dory as she string Nemo and Marlin through the ocean to find her family. Degeneres is joined by some new voice actors for this film, the list including Diane Keaton and Ty Burrell.

Following the high success of its first two movies, The Purge: Election Year is set to be released on July 1stThe story takes place in 2025, two years after the events from The Purge: Anarchy take place. It follows police sergeant Leo Barnes (played by Frank Grillo, one of my favorite actors ever!) as he becomes the head of security for one of the senators of the US who will be running for President in the following elections.

Star Trek Beyond follows Captain Kirk, Captain Spock and the rest of the crew as they battle a ruthless enemy during their stay at Starbase Earhart. Chris Pine and Zachary Quinto will return as Captain Kirk and Captain Spock. Zoe Saldana stars as Lieutenant Nyota Uhura and Idris Elba returns as Krall. I’m not much of a Star Trek fan, but I can only imagine what this means to all of those who are. This movie is set to hit theatres July 22nd.

On July 15th, Melissa McCarthy, Chris Hemsworth, Kristen Wiig, and even Ozzy Osbourne will grace the movie screens near you in the 2016 reboot of Ghostbusters. It’s been 27 years since the last movie from the franchise has been released and this version has already gotten major exposure. Filming for this movie began in June of 2015, the cast of the new movie already having been revealed. This version of the film follows two women, Erin Gilbert (Kristen Wiig) and Abby Yates (Melissa McCarthy) as they live their lives in Manhattan, New York as unheralded authors who write about ghosts existing. Soon enough, when ghosts invade Manhattan, Gilbert and Yates team up with two other women to catch them.

Four years after the last film from the series, Matt Damon returns to his infamous role in Jason Bourne. This is the fifth film in the Bourne film series and seems like it’ll be the best one yet. This film follows Bournes when he suddenly resurfaces from his disappearance (which is how The Bourne Ultimatum ends) just in time to save the world from unprecedented instability. The film hits theatres July 29th.

After saving the best for last, the movie I’m looking forward to hits theatres August 5th. Jared Leto, Margot Robbie, Will Smith and Cara Delevingne give DC’s most notorious villains life in Suicide Squad. This film follows the secret government agency, Task Force X, as they hire the world’s most notorious and wanted villains to save the world. In all honesty, I’m mostly excited about this movie for the actors. Leto and Robbie are one of my favorite actors, too. I can’t wait to see how this movie will unravel. I’ve seen several trailers for the movie and I am not expecting disappointment.

I hope this helped all of you start planning your summer. I know that it made me want to work endless hours to be able to go watch every single one of them.

Happy summer!
