How does exercise affect stress?

Stress tends to be a huge issue for teens and adults. It can be caused by something related to school, work, family, relationships, or even all four. The main advice that is given to them to help them relax is to take a moment and breathe, but sometimes you just need to move around to get all the frustration out. Many people use exercise as a way to relieve stress and open their mind.

Lots of times when I worry about an assignment or project coming up, I get very anxious and annoyed, so I go out for a quick jog to relax my mind and to get some fresh air. When I return home, I feel so much better and can focus more.

Usually when my mother comes home, she is very stressed out from working all day. One day I told her, “Let’s go for a jog!” She immediately said “No.” However, I knew she loved to dance for fun, so I did some research and found a local Zumba class. I told her about it and after begging her for days, I convinced her to go with me.

I did not like Zumba because I’m a shy person and dancing in front of people isn’t for me, but my mother loves it. Everyday, excepts Sunday, she goes to Zumba either before or after work and every since then, she has been less stressed.

Sometimes you have to find the right exercise for you. For example, yoga isn’t as vigorous, but it is a great way to release some tension and relieve the stress. Maybe you think “I’m too lazy to exercise,” but that only means you haven’t found the right exercise for you. I recommend that if your feeling stressed out, especially with finals right around the corner, to set some time each day or each week even to be physically active.
