Mr. Launius’ first period Anthropology class and Ms. Sharpe’s AP World History students attended the Getty Villa in Malibu for a field trip.

Once everyone arrived, students were split into groups of seven and were sent on their self directed tours of the museum. Along with its art, the Getty Villa offered a series of small gardens and fountains. Videos were provided in each room for students who wanted additional information on the time periods and artifacts. For example, students could watch videos on how Egyptians were mummified or how Roman glass vases were made. HMSA students had the opportunity to visually see all the artifacts they’ve been studying and future ones that will be taught later throughout the semester.

After a few hours of walking around, students moved to a designated area to eat their lunches or ate at the cafe. The Getty Villa also had a small gift shop that had art replicas and books about Greek mythology.
