2015 Soul Train Awards: Recap

This year’s Soul Train Awards was quite successful. It was full of fun comedy and performances that no one would’ve ever expected. Erykah Badu hosted this year’s award show, and blessed the audience and viewers with a large amount of outfit changes. Of course, her hats had to change with the outfit as well. She also wow’d the audience with her entrance riding a hoverboard!

Surprisingly, Beyonce didn’t show up to the event. Many were expecting the “Queen Bey” only because they’re always excited to see what type of dress or hairstyle she has. Besides not showing up, she didn’t win any award! Maybe it’s a good thing she didn’t show up. She would’ve just been sitting pretty.

One of the best highlights of the show was Jidenna’s impersonating his father’s Nigerian accent. A lot of people had no idea that Jidenna was even Nigerian! He told a story about when he got a 98% on his math test, and he told his father. His father said,”Ah ah! Where are the other two points? Go and get them, and then bring them back to me.” To conclude his speech, he said that the award he received was the two points he was missing.

A surprising win for Best Dance Performance was “Watch Me (Whip and Nae Nae)” by Silento. He beat Beyonce! Not only was it his very first Soul Train award, but it was his first award ever! His speech was short and sweet; and his positive words had the crowd giving great energy as he spoke. He’s one of the youngest to receive a Soul Train award, and we congratulate him!

With her inspiring music and extraordinary acting skills, Jill Scott was that night’s honoree. Before she received her Lady of Soul award, celebrity friends said a few kind words. She then said a speech and sang a few of her #1 singles. She even brought her son Jett along with her.

All in all, this year’s Soul Train Awards was a success! Though our “Queen Bey” couldn’t make it, many respected artists and actors in the industry blessed the awards with their presence and positive vibes.
