Solve For X

Princess X is a novel written by Cherie Priest and illustrated by Kali Ciesemier; it follows best friends May and Libby as they tell the story of a character they’ve created named Princess X. They continue her story for years, until Libby and her mother are driving across a bridge and their car goes off the side, killing both mother and daughter. In the years that follow, Princess X is forgotten and May slowly moves on with her life. Until one day, she spots a Princess X sticker on the window of an old building. Immediately, May is haunted with the possibility that Libby is alive and continuing Princess X without her, so she sets out to find her supposed dead best friend.

Now, I don’t know if it’s first name Princess and last name X, or if it’s first name X and last name Princess, but I like to think her name is Princess X, and no last name. This novel really surprised me. I was constantly wondering, “Hold up, he did what?” Of course, the main event in the novel was finding out whether Libby was alive or not in the end. However, nothing could prepare me for that insane plot twist. I absolutely don’t want to spoil this book for you if you plan on reading it based on my jumbled comments about it so far. The mystery in the plot was what kept me hooked. Since the dialogue in the novel included a lot of May’s actual thoughts, I felt like I was part of the story. I could see how May was thinking and feeling, and it only added to the suspense.

I finished all 230 pages in less than four days because it was an incredible read and hard to put down! There was so much going on, and I couldn’t bring myself to put it down without being in the middle of a very important scene. I definitely recommend this book for those of you who enjoy mystery novels, plot twists, and stories about a princess in a pink dress with a katana sword. Yeah, way cool.
