Black Friday: Worth It?

Stephanie Ibrahim, Staff Writer

Black Friday: when people hear this they think of savings and more savings, but is it really worth it? In reality, these deals might not be as money-saving as people may think since companies gain money instead of losing money. Stores gain money because the products they get from manufactures are cheaper than they sell it for. Therefore, even if stores lower the prices, they are still making a profit. A Nerd Wallet study found that 93% of retailers repeat the Black Friday products and prices from the years before (Courtney Jespersen, NerdWallet Study Finds Black Friday Is No Bargain), meaning that more than half the stores people shop at yearly have the same products with the same prices, which leads us to the conclusion that people should not need to shop every year.

Black Friday is pointless and always has been because sales start earlier than the actual Friday. Stores begin their Black Friday sales a week or maybe earlier before the actual Black Friday. It’s senseless to go out of your way and possibly get injured for something you can purchase during the week. Everyone should enjoy the holiday break with their families and relax instead of camping the night before and waiting in a long line to get something that will most likely go on sale the following year. But if you really enjoy shopping on Black Friday, an alternative could be finding the same products during the week instead of Friday.
