Hooked on a Feeling 2

April 27, 2017

Guardians of the Galaxy was released in 2014 and became a surprise hit. The tenth film released by Marvel studios, the movie introduced audiences to Marvel’s lesser known heroes: Peter Quill (or ‘Starlord’ as he prefers to be called), Gamora, Drax, Rocket Raccoon, and Groot. The film was surprisingly comedic and received praise for its fresh plot and amazing music (Awesome Mix Vol. 1). Now the team appears to be back together as the Guardians suit up for Vol. 2, being released in theaters May 5.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) pretty much revolved around Earth for its first nine films; Thor was the only character to explore beyond ‘Midgard’ (Earth) in his movie. Guardians of the Galaxy delved even further into the cosmos than the God of Thunder, displaying new worlds never seen before in the Cinematic Universe.

Set several months after the original, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 promises to be a fun film once again, with the heroes adding some new members to their family and Peter (Chris Pratt) learning about his mysterious father (played by Kurt Russell). Trailers and TV spots have revealed new settings with astoundingly vibrant colors, from golden people to a fairy-like wonderland.

Director James Gunn revealed that Thanos (the big baddie in the MCU) will not make an appearance in the film. This announcement came as a disappointment to some; Thanos is the villain for the colossal Avengers: Infinity War, and since he made a cameo in the first Guardians, fans were hoping to see more of the Mad Titan in action. Gunn focused the film on the Guardians, seeking to preserve the originality that made the first Guardians such hit.

Any dismay rapidly vanished after the trailers, as everyone fell in love with Baby Groot. Groot’s actions in the first film resulted in him having to be regrown from a twig, but he’ll be big enough to run around and scream ‘I AM GROOT!’ in the sequel. The cute creature isn’t to be underestimated, however, as he still possesses incredible strength. I look forward to seeing Baby Groot’s interactions with Rocket Raccoon, and especially Drax.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 hits theaters May 5. Beloved characters and colorful action sequences set to the rhythm of Awesome Mix Vol. 2 all but guarantee an amazing cinematic experience!
